Time is the most precious resource in the world, and it is within each person’s control to decide how to allocate it.
However, many entrepreneurs find it challenging to accomplish all their daily goals because they lack effective time management skills. As a successful entrepreneur from Kazakhstan puts it, “You can discuss business matters even while practicing yoga. Why not?”
Techniques for managing time
Whether you’re an experienced professional seeking greater productivity or a novice who does not know where to begin, time management techniques can make a profound difference. But it is important to be careful with time management as not all methods will work for everyone. It is important to find which ones work for you and utilise them to the best of your ability.
Some techniques you should keep in mind are:
Task prioritisation – Identify the most important tasks in the workplace and focus on them first, continue prioritising the most important tasks until there are none left to be completed.
Delegation – Assign tasks to team members, when possible. It is important to assign the right tasks to the right people; make sure the tasks delegated to them fit their skill set to optimise efficiency in your workplace.
Set Deadlines – Assign self-imposed deadlines to tasks, even if they are not urgent deadlines. This creates a sense of urgency and accountability and will create an active working environment.
Saying No – Avoid overcommitting by learning to say no to tasks or projects that don’t align with your priorities. This is where delegation also becomes helpful, it allows you to complete the tasks you need to get done without committing yourself to them.
Taking breaks is as important as managing your time correctly
Taking breaks is a critical and often underestimated aspect of effective time management. While it may seem counterintuitive to pause your work when you have a lot to accomplish, the truth is that taking breaks can significantly enhance your productivity, focus, and overall well-being. A successful entrepreneur from Serbia said, “I spent almost 20 years doing entrepreneurial things. So yeah, it is a bit tiring and exhausting, I had to take a break”.
