‘Women need to help each other’

Nada Bajac transformed her limitless aspirations into a thriving business. Leveraging her government and private sector experience, Bajac emphasizes perseverance and realistic market assessment as key to her entrepreneurial success, while actively supporting female entrepreneurship through mentorship and collaboration.

Nada Bajac is the owner of Serbian marketing agency Digitron, based in the northern city of Novi Sad.

Before opening the agency, Bajac worked for the Serb government and at a string of private companies. “The qualities that define me,” she says, “are responsibility, perseverance, the ability to assess market conditions realistically, and an ambition for a comfortable life.”

Realising that her aspirations were unlimited, setting up her own company was a natural step, she adds.

“I stopped working for others and became an entrepreneur. By ‘unlimited aspirations’, I mean the desire to create something of my own, to have control over my professional growth and success, and to make a significant impact in my industry.”

Bajac founded Digitron six years ago, together with her husband, right after the birth of their third child.

“We no longer wanted to work for others; we wanted to work for ourselves and have endless opportunities for advancement,” she says.

“Without a formal education in marketing, I learned everything on the job, self-educating through various platforms including online courses, industry blogs, and webinars. My first client gave me a chance to shine in exchange for only a minimal fee; I was determined to move forward. I registered the company and began my journey.”

Since then, Digitron’s journey has been impressive. Bajac says that the pivotal moment in her career was realising that clients came to her agency solely based on the recommendations of other satisfied clients.

“That made me realise that my team was doing something exceptionally well and that people appreciated it,” she says. “In my field, competition is fierce, yet quality is something people always recognise.”

Bajac admits that balancing her private and professional life is also a challenge, but now, as the company owner, “I can afford to be absent when needed, knowing my team has everything under control,” she says.

“Good organisation is half the battle; working with my husband is an added benefit. We overcame these challenges by focusing on delivering exceptional results to our clients, which led to positive word-of-mouth referrals and, eventually, more business opportunities.”

‘Don’t be afraid to fail’

For women just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey, Bajac has plenty of advice.

“Plan well, delegate tasks, and do not be afraid to fall,” she says, adding, “it’s all part of the process. Ask for help when you need it, and don’t give up. Often, the best things happen when you least expect them. An honest and responsible approach towards work, yourself, and your employees is crucial for achieving success in entrepreneurship. Remember, we are stronger when we support each other and collaborate.”

Indeed, it is clear that Bajac is a great believer in the importance of mutual support, connections and collaboration—and would like to see more such initiatives for women.

“Being a woman entrepreneur in Serbia has been a challenging and enriching experience for me,” she says. “As the owner of Digitron I have often faced obstacles such as limited access to funding and a lack of networking opportunities.

“However, through perseverance and determination, I have managed to overcome these challenges. I have found great value in connecting with other women entrepreneurs through events for women in business. Such initiatives, which foster networking and learning, will significantly contribute to the professional growth and development of many women in Serbia, and I hope they become more prevalent.”

Looking forward, giving back

When it comes to the future, Bajac’s vision is for continuous growth and improvement of the services her marketing agency provides. She also wants to give back to the community, and has begun mentoring new entrepreneurs.

“I believe that Digitron will continue to develop as a reliable partner for our clients,” she says.

“I support female entrepreneurship through mentorship and advising women who want to start their businesses. I offer one-on-one mentoring sessions where we discuss their business ideas, strategies, and challenges. I also advise on various aspects of entrepreneurship, such as marketing, finance, and operations.

“Women need to help each other and work together to create better conditions for all of us.”
